UKWA is the dedicated trade association for the vital warehousing sector, representing 1,000 member businesses, who together operate around 200 million square feet of warehousing and distribution space across thousands of locations.

UKWA’s 4-part mission is:

To talk about warehousing including to the government, the media and amongst its members. Raising the profile of the sector among policymakers and campaigning a for a better deal for its members UKWA has championed the case for sustainable power through the installation of solar PV on warehouse rooftops. Commissioning research in 2022 into the feasibility of solar revealed the potential and subsequently at the end of 2024, solar PV on warehouse rooftops was acknowledged in the Government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.

“Right now in the UK, only 5% of warehouses have any solar panels on the roof and yet if we took a small proportion of those warehouses which are ready to have solar, we could double the amount of solar power in the UK just on warehouse rooftops.” Clare Bottle speaking on Savills Real Estate Insights podcast, February 2025.

To raise industry standards through training initiatives such as the first officially accredited Warehouse Manager CPC and partnering with GEEP to promote careers in the sector to engineering students.

To build community with networking events including the UKWA Awards for Excellence, the House of Lords Luncheon and presence at key sector exhibitions like Multimodal.

To help members meet the challenges of a fast-changing world through the website information hub, sharing best practice via its publications and tackling the big issues at the annual National Conference.
